If you try your opener and the garage door doesn't move, struggles to lift, or you recently heard a loud noise come from the garage, it may be a broken spring. To tell for sure, look at the spring(s) above the door. A broken spring will have a distinct gap in the coil. If your spring(s) do not look similar to the image above please refer to the "TorqueMaster and EZ-Set Systems" section below.
If you try your opener and the garage door won't move, moves unevenly, or gets wedged in the opening, it's likely a broken cable. The cables run vertically along both sides of the door. A common reason for a broken cable is rust at the bottom loop where the cable attaches to the door.
If your door will not close, or reverses when trying to close, it may be the safety-eyes. Check for obstructions between the eyes, clean the lenses and try to visually re-align the eyes if they appear to have been bumped out of alignment. Sunlight can also affect the eyes, but is less common.
At A-Doorable we do not carry Wayne Dalton TorqueMaster or EZ-Set spring replacements. These systems can be identified by looking above the inside of your garage door at the top left or right corners. Another giveaway of the TorqueMaster system is that the springs are not visible as they are located inside the metal shaft.
For garages that currently have one of these systems installed, we offer a conversion to a standard torsion spring system.
